Disease Reporting and Surveillance are valuable services the Gallia County Health Department provides. The purpose of Disease Reporting and Surveillance is to prevent the spread of communicable disease in the community. 

The health department, with support from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), monitor any disease that could potentially pose a health risk to the community.  Hospitals, labs and clinics are required by law to report certain communicable diseases to the health department.  When these reports are received by the health department, a public health nurse follows up with the client to ensure the appropriate treatment is completed.  Depending on the disease the public health nurse may also follow up with contacts of the case.
